Inconel 600 is the chromium and nickel-based alloy that is having excellent oxidation resistant ability at a greater temperature. Also, it is having excellent resistant at chloride containing and carburizing atmospheres. This alloy is designed for the use from zero-temperature to elevated temperatures. The content of high nickel allows it in retaining the considerable resistance under the reducing conditions and thus making it corrosion resistant by numerous inorganic and organic compounds. The nickel content provides it the high resistance to stress corrosion cracking and is offering well resistant to the alkaline solutions.
The chromium content provides the alloy resistant to the sulfur compound and also to the different oxidizing atmosphere. Here the content of chromium is making it greatly superior to CP nickel into the oxidizing atmosphere. In the strong oxidizing solutions like concentrated nitric acid, this alloy is having poor resistance. This alloy is also non-magnetic in nature and is having good mechanical properties and is a good combination of high strength, workability and is weldable readily. It also exhibits cold forming features that normally are associated with nickel and chromium stainless steel.
There are many tests the industry conducts on the product for the assurance of the quality of the product. The test that they conduct is including positive material identification test (PMI), hardness test, intergranular corrosion test (IGC), pitting resistance test, macro test, micro test, chemical test, mechanical test, flattening test, flaring test etc.
